Starting the 2009 – 2010 school year, John Early will be open to all zoned students. Students will no longer be chosen through the lottery process. John Early will also no longer follow the Paideia learning method. Instead, John Early will follow the state’s new curriculum guidelines under the Tennessee Diploma Project. This new curriculum is being implemented by Tennessee Department of Education and is designed to better prepare students for college and the workforce. For more information about these new state standards, click here.

Additionally in the fall of 2009, John Early Middle School will move to the Pearl-Cohn cluster as part of the new Student Assignment Plan. All John Early students who meet academic qualifications will be guaranteed a seat at Hume-Fogg Magnet High.

John Early teachers seek to actively engage students in the learning process by utilizing instructional strategies that meet the needs of all students. In 2009-2010, John Early will offer grades 5 – 8; however, in 2010-2011, John Early will only offer grades 6-8 as part of the new Student Assignment Plan. Fifth grade students will be zoned Cockrill or Park Avenue, depending on their place of residence.
